Acrylic FAQs

The correct monomer-to-powder ratio will vary slightly depending on your working environment and technique, but it should create a smooth, glossy bead that holds its shape without running. The bead should not look chalky or dry, and it shouldn’t flood the nail. A well balanced ratio ensures proper adhesion. If your bead sets too quickly, appears powdery, or feels too soft and slow to cure, adjust your liquid and powder pickup until the bead self-levels smoothly and is easy to control.

In warmer weather, the polymerisation process is quicker, and in winter, slower. Ensure you allow for this. Work a little wetter in summer and a little drier in winter.

If your acrylic remains soft, it’s often due to excessive monomer, old or contaminated products, or an incorrect mixing ratio. Always replace old cloudy, contaminated monomer, and store products away from heat and sunlight.

Lifting is usually caused by incorrect nail prep, oil or dust left on the surface, product touching the skin, or working with beads that are too wet or too dry. Always ensure thorough prep and the correct ratio for maximum adhesion. Lifting can also occur if the products being used are incompatible with your client’s nails or other systems already on the nail plate.
